Finally! After months and months of speculation Rick Nash has been dealt. Nash and his 6-years at $7.8 million/season contract were moved to the New York Rangers just minutes ago.
I know what you’re thinking…..all this time for a deal to come to fruition must mean Scott Howson, GM for the Blue Jackets, must have received a kings ransom! Well you will be disappointed to know that in fact did not happen.
The best player Columbus got back was Brandon Dubinsky. The also received Artem Anisimov (16 goals last year), 21-year old defenceman Tim Erixon (who is interesting as he was originally drafted by Calgary and refused to sign there as he said the only team he would play for is the Rangers) and a first round pick. That pick however is shaping up to be in the mid 20′s or worse. The Jackets also gave up a conditional 3rd rounder and minor league defenceman Steve Delisle. Apparently he was thrown in as Columbus would’ve been over the 50-contract limit (reminds me of me in fantasy football).
I had hoped for this long of a negotiation that Columbus would’ve been able to pry out Del Zotto or Kreider. Sadly that was not the case and after finishing dead last in the NHL with just 65-points it looks like the Blue Jackets are headed into rebuilding mode……still?…..again?
